I just returned final proofs for a chapter, "The Editor and the Electronic Word: Onscreen Editing as a Tool for Efficiency and Communication with Authors", that I've written for an upcoming Baywood textbook, New Perspectives on Technical Editing. I've published hundreds of articles by now, but a book chapter is somehow a special thrill.

The book was edited by Avon Murphy, a long-time colleague from the Society for Technical Communication and editor of my occasional book reviews in its journal, Technical Communication. Working with Avon is always a pleasure and an education: he's the most delightfully gentlemanly editor an author could ask for, and endlessly patient with an author's foibles, anxieties, and insecurities. (Who, moi?) I like to think of myself as an accomplished pamperer of authors, but Avon always teaches me that I've still got much to learn.

In case you're interested in learning more about the book, details are available at Baywood's site. If that link breaks, you should be able to find it via Amazon or searching at the main Baywood site. The book is due out in late January 2010, and shortly thereafter, I'll publish the original (unedited) version of that chapter on my own site.

Stay tuned!
