Who's the guy in the hat?

blatherskiteSeveral people have asked me privately about the identity of the guy in the hat who serves as my user icon. Fans of Blackadder will instantly recognize Tony Robinson, who plays the much beloved (and much abused) character Baldrick.
What I've always loved about Baldrick is his innocence and simple needs: you have to admire a man who has goals as lofty as collecting enough turnips that he'll eventually be able to afford his own large turnip in the country. He's simple, but not necessarily a fool. Baldrick often has cunning [sic] plans aplenty, none of which are quite so clever as they seem. And although he often shows up his liege lord Blackadder, that's more by happy chance than by careful design.
So I chose the name of this blog to remind myself that sometimes things I think are particularly clever are nothing more than blather, and I chose Baldrick as my icon to remind myself that I'm not always so smart as I like to think. It doesn't quite keep me humble, but more so than might otherwise be the case.
