At least briefly.

A couple weeks back, I finally consented to getting rid of the duplicate books from when Shoshanna and I merged our collections... nearly 14 years later.

The problem wasn't what you might think. I wasn't really worried she'd leave me and I'd have to replace the lost books on a bachelor's diminished salary. Really, upon prodding my motivations, it turned out to be more the notion that books are like little cellulose puppies, and you can't give them away with a clean conscience unless you can find them a good home.

Anyway, I finally figured out a solution that I could live with: I brought two large boxes of books down to Readercon earlier this month and donated them to the con-running volunteers. They were gleefully received, and I slept easily that night.

Needless to say, this only briefly delays the inevitable. We already have a pile of a couple dozen unread books that somehow managed to find their way into our home. "Of the making of books there is no end" (Ecclesiastes, to my great surprise), and apparently, such might also be said of their hoarding.

Oh well. There's always the World Fantasy Convention in November, right? (Or would be, except they routinely send you home with a large bag full of books. Alas!)
